Our Ancestry Tree

The ancestral family tree of Nedumchira is reconstructed using the writings of our ancestors, particularly Late Rev. Msgr. Jacob Nedumchira, who had a deep interest in the family's history and genealogy.
As per the records kept by Msgr. Jacob Nedumchira, the ancestry of the Nedumchira family can be traced back to the early 16th century. It was during this time that Mathew, a member of the Kalangola family, relocated from Athirampuzha and established a home in the Kalathilparambil house located in Chengalam village in the district of Kottayam in the southern state of Kerala, India.
The three sons of Mathew (Kalangola) were named Mathew, Uthuppan, and Thoma. According to the scripts found in Msgr.Jacob's collection, Mathew's relatives from Athirampuzha would frequently visit him at Chengalam. Additionally, it was a common practice for Mathew to send his children to the Athirampuzha church to participate in religious ceremonies.Even today, families descended from Kalangola can be found in and around Athirampuzha and Ettumanoor

Br. Lukose Nedumchira

In the history of the Nedumchira family, special recognition must be given to Br. Lukose, the youngest son of Uthup Nedumchira. He played a pioneering role in reuniting with the Catholic church in the year 1920. His efforts inspired the rest of the family to follow his path. The Antiochean Malankara church officially acknowledged him as the first person to reunite with the Catholic church based on his personal interest and faith. Today, his photograph proudly stands alongside those of other priests and bishops in the parish hall of St. Antony's Church in Chengalom
